  1. In today's society it has become quite evident that survival has become the main concern for many individuals. The ministry of agriculture has proposed that individuals eat local produce and i am in total agreement with this. There are many benefits that may be had from from this practice.
Firstly, if individuals eat local produce then this could prove to be quite economical.Imported goods and produce carry a tariff that is passed on to consumers. If local products are consumed then this would undoubtedly lower the cost of goods for consumers. The use of local products would also prove to be a good source of revenue for the county. instead of using already limited funds to import goods, revenue could be obtained from sale of local products. This would most definitely assist in improving the country's economic standing. The comsumption of local products is a quite logical to step in light of the country's current economical situation, nevertheless, there are also health benefits to be gained from eating locally. The preservatives used to maintain imported food had prove to be quite hazardous to the health. A drastic reduction in intake of imported food would most definitely result in a drastic occurrence of certain illnesses. In light of all these facts i most definitely support the campaign launched by the government. I endorse the campaign, "eat what you grow and grow what you eat".

  3. In this day and age I couldn't agree more on this statement made by the minister.By eating what you grow and growing what you eat can be beneficial economical and offer some form of financial support.
Being able to grow and eat your own food helps to save money in your pocket as well as to cut down on the consumption of imported foods. our Jamaican soil is one of the best and our foods are able to grow without having to apply all that fertilizer that the imported food contain...TO BE CONTINUED

  4. I strongly support the ministry of agriculture in saying that we must eat what we grow and grow what we eat and eat what we grow. The country can benefit from this by saving yearly on the billions of dollars that are spent yearly on importing food from other countries. What compounds this is that some of the food that we import can very well be grown in our country. Secondly, this can campaign can be a means of employment for many unemployed persons. The food that we eat can be grown by many individuals and be marketed locally as a source of income for their household.

  5. Agriculture isimportant to the development of any nation, Jamaica being no exception. It is imperative for us as jamaicans to engage in this practice since it it reduces our dependence on importation, it satisfies the needs of the poopulaaation and it booosts our country's economy. How l;ong are we going to icontinue the importation of food that we can produce? There are numerous lands available for the production of food.

  6. well i strongly support the eat what you grow grow what you eat campaign as this will contribute to nation building, reduce the heavy spending on our pockets for the import of food, and even reduce the intake of unhealthy preserved foods which causes many illnesses in jamaica.

  7. I agree with The Minister's sentiments. Increasing the consumation of local produce would not only provide more job opportunities in the farming industry but also lower the amount of money that are spent on imports yearly, thus decreasing our dependence on foreign countries

  8. i believe strongly with the minister of agriculture. we need support our local formers by buying there produce. if we eat local produce then our formers get there produce out and the spoilage would reduce. local produce should sold at a lower cost so our consumers will be able to purchase. import duties, quotas and tariffs are placed on imported good. i am a hundred percent with the minister on the implementation of the formers market that is the formers are taking their produce to the consumers.

  9. I strongly agree with the minister of agriculture where we eat what we grow and grow what we eat. As jamaican citizens we should have a little garden in our back yard that can provide for their families.

  10. The "grow what you eat and eat what you grow" campaign is certainly a smart move by the agriculture minister. A country must be able to feed itself, especially now that we are experiencing recession. This campaign will enable the country: to import less products, provide more support for local farmers and to entice more persons to get involve in farming.
It is more economical for Jamaica, if the country imports less products. One has to take into consideration that when you buy products from abroad, you not only pay for the product but for shipping and other duties that are attach to the product.
The farmers in Jamaica will get more recognition. Citizens will see how valuable farmers are to the country and farmers will benefit more from their hard work.
The employment ratio will increase, since more persons will be influenced to get involve in farming. Production rate will increase therefore more persons will be needed in planting and harvesting time.

  11. I am in total agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture statement; eat what we grow and grow what we eat. It amazes me as to the different agricultural produces that Jamaica import even produce that we grow here in Jamaica. These goods attract duty and tariff and that money could be invested somewhere else in the Jamaican economy. According to the Jamaica Observer April 09,2010 issue, Jamaica's import bill for agricultural produce decreased by US$71 million last year from US$854 million as more citizens buy into the 'eat what we grow and grow what we eat' concept.

Therefore if we farm in abundance we would be able to sufficiently supply the Jamaican market. Another reason why this campaign will work is that the average Jamaican will be able to save on their food bill as items that were once purchased in the supermarket and market can now be grown and reaped from their back yard. Also growing what we eat can prove to be very beneficial health wise as we are able to eliminate some of the hormones found in imported produce.

  12. The ‘Eat what you grow, grow what you eat’ campaign that is being promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture is a positive drive towards our country’s development.
Firslty, the Jamaican farmers will earn more if they are better supported by their fellow Jamaicans. I say
In addition, If Jamaicans begin to eat what we grow and to grow what we eat then the locals of this country will obtain more employment. This will result in an increase in the standard of living of these individuals who will now be employed.
The country can earn more of the tourists’ appreciation if they come here and really experience ‘our own Jamaican grown’ foods to the fullest.
